  • 40+ languages
  • Per-app overrides

How it works

Three keys. That's the whole product.

  1. 01

    Install & pick a model

Install once on your machine. Pick Compact, Balanced, or Smart depending on your hardware. Or bring your own.

  2. 02

    Type anywhere

Email, chat, code editors, docs, browser fields, any text input. A ghost prediction trails your caret.

  3. 03

    Press Tab

Accept the full line, take one word with ⌥Tab, or force a fresh suggestion with ⌃Space.

Why local matters

Cloud autocomplete is yesterday's idea.

The cloud way
  • × Every keystroke round-trips to a server
  • × Latency varies with your Wi-Fi
  • × Your writing trains someone else's model
  • × Monthly subscription forever
  • × Stops working on a plane
The Foretype way
  • Predictions decoded on your own CPU/GPU
  • ~120 ms keystroke-to-suggestion
  • Your text never leaves the machine
  • One install. Bring your own GGUF.
  • Works on the plane, in a tunnel, anywhere

Every detail

What you actually get.

100% on-device

No network calls. Your draft stays on your SSD. Auditable by Little Snitch.

Per-app overrides

On in your inbox, off in your IDE, a different tone in chat. Configure per app or per browser domain.

40+ languages

Type Bonjour, get a French completion. Type 你好, get Mandarin. No setting to flip.

Custom voice

Tell Foretype how you write. Plus per-app custom instructions for the cases where one voice doesn't fit.

Rebindable shortcuts

Don't like Tab? Pick your own keys for accept, accept-word, force, and global toggle.

Mid-line completions

Predictions even when text follows your cursor (opt-in via Labs). Continues your sentence forward.

Inline autocorrect

tehthe, right at the caret. Tab swaps it in place.

Force-activate

⌃Space demands a suggestion right now, skipping the debounce. Useful for short prompts.

Stats that respect you

Daily completions, words, characters with Day / Week / Month grouping. All local, no telemetry.

Bring your own model

Any GGUF you trust. Symlinked, never copied. Use the model that fits your machine and taste.

Where it earns its keep

A keystroke saved is a thought finished.

Email

Polite closings, follow-ups, "thanks for catching that". The boilerplate disappears.

Slack & iMessage

Standing meeting reminders, "on it", "let me check and circle back".

Code comments

JSDoc summaries, inline TODOs that read like English not stenography.

Design briefs

Acceptance criteria, "out of scope" lists, edge-case enumerations.

Support replies

Apology phrasing, troubleshooting steps, follow-up if-this-then-that.

Long-form writing

Bridge sentences, transitions, the second half of an idea you already had.

Pricing

Cheaper than the cloud. Lighter than a subscription.

Built for people who type a lot

Who it's for.

Foretype just launched, so no testimonials yet, only the folks we built it for. See if one sounds like you.

Engineers

Daily PR descriptions, RFCs, code comments. Per-app override so Xcode stays clean, Slack stays helpful.

Multilingual writers

Switch from English emails to a German Slack thread mid-flow. No language picker. The model follows.

Support & success

200 replies a day where 70% of each one is a phrase you've typed before. Tab them away.

Privacy-cautious

Lawyers, doctors, founders. Drafts that cannot fly to a third-party server. No exceptions.

FAQ

Honest answers.

How is this different from the OS's built-in autocomplete?

Built-in autocomplete suggests single words from a fixed dictionary. Foretype runs a real language model on your machine and predicts full phrases that fit the sentence you're already writing, in any language, in any app.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After the initial model download, nothing requires a network. Foretype works on a plane, in a tunnel, in an air-gapped office.

Which apps does it work in?

Anywhere the OS exposes a text field via its accessibility layer: mail clients, chat apps, browsers, code editors, note-takers, terminals, most things. You can disable it per-app from Settings → App Settings.

What languages are supported?

40+ languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Arabic, Hindi, Polish, Czech, Turkish, Vietnamese, and more. No language picker. Foretype follows the language you're already typing in.

Does it learn from my writing?

Optionally, and only locally. Personalization can bias suggestions toward word choices you use, stored in `~/Library/Application Support/Foretype/`. There is no opt-in that sends data off your machine.

Hardware requirements?

Today: macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon (Intel Macs work but slower). Windows and Linux builds are next on the roadmap, same on-device model. 8 GB RAM minimum (Compact model); 16 GB+ for Balanced / Smart. Foretype auto-picks the right model for your machine.

When are Windows and Linux coming?

The engine (llama.cpp under the hood) already runs on both. The macOS app shipped first because it's where the author writes most. Cross-platform Foretype clients are next. Follow the GitHub repo for release notes.

What about privacy?

The completion runs entirely in-process. The app does not phone home, does not collect telemetry by default, and the "Share anonymous stats" toggle ships off by default. Source is open for inspection.

Pricing?

Free forever for 200 accepted words a day — no card, no account (that's twice Cotypist's 100/day). Want unlimited plus per-app voice, full autocorrect and the largest models? Pro is $3 / month or $29 / year. Prefer to pay once? Lifetime is a single $59 (intro $49 for early users) and never renews — an option Cotypist, which is subscription-only, doesn't offer. Every tier runs 100% on your Mac.

Try Foretype.

Two-minute install. The first ghost suggestion shows up in the next message you write.
